Phil De Young OAM
Principal, 2002 – 2010.
Phil De Young was educated at Wesley College, from where he matriculated in 1964. He completed an Economics Degree at Monash University before entering the Army in 1969.
In the Army he successfully negotiated an Officer Training Course at Scheyville in NSW, graduating as a 2nd Lieutenant in June of 1969. He served the remainder of his two years as a Platoon Commander at Puckapunyal in Victoria. On leaving the Army he joined Australian Paper Manufacturers as a manager at the Fairfield Mill in the Planning Department.
In May, 1975, he accepted a teaching position at Mentone Boys Grammar and at the beginning of 1976 he commenced an 18-year teaching association with Wesley College, culminating in his appointment as Head of the Senior School at the Prahran Campus. Whilst at Wesley he gained a Bachelor of Education from Monash University.
In January 1994 he was appointed as Head of the Caulfield Campus at Caulfield Grammar School. At the start of 1998 he was persuaded to join Wilson Dilworth Limited as a senior manager and later became a Director of the Company. During his time at Wilson Dilworth, he completed a Graduate Diploma of Financial Planning at the Securities Institute of Australia. He was appointed Principal of Carey Baptist Grammar School in June 2001.
