Norman Dobson
Mr. Dobson joined the staff of Carey in May 1947. His main interest was in Social Studies, and he had virtually a pioneering task to do in so far as this subject was concerned. That he has been successful is clearly shown by the State-wide reputation that Carey has in this particular sphere. In 1957 he took over the senior work in History, and here again he has a most successful record.
Mr. Dobson's main extra-curricular interest has been in tennis. His keenness and enthusiasm in this branch of sport has played an important part in its growth at Carey.
With the introduction of a School Representative Council some few years ago, Mr. Dobson acted as Chairman's adviser, and thus contributed much in the early days of the S.R.C. More recently he was asked by the Headmaster to accept a House Mastership and the pastoral care he is exercising in Sutton House is greatly appreciated, not only by the boys but by their parents as well.
Outside the School, Mr. Dobson has wide interests in the fields of Education and the Church. He is conducting tutorial classes for the School of Education at the University of Melbourne, and is lecturing in History at the Methodist Home Mission Training College. He is most active in the work of his own church, and is a very acceptable preacher in his own denomination and elsewhere.
