Malcolm Leeson Vawser
Mr Vawser was elected to the School Council in 1978 as a representative of the Baptist Union of Victoria. He became involved in Council activities as Chairman of the Public Relations Committee which developed under his leadership. In 1981 he took over the Presidency from Mr Alfred Mellor, O.B.E., and served in the capacity until June 1986.
He saw the importance of identifying the future directions of the School and set up the Council's Planning Committee. In 1982 a Steering Committee was formed to establish a Foundation, designed to ensure the School's long term financial viability and to assist with its capital building programme. As Chairman of the Steering Committee and subsequently a member of the Foundation Board when it was established in 1984, he hosted a number of social functions to elicit support from the Carey Community and recruit leaders to carry on the work of the Foundation.
Throughout his time as President, Mr Vawser has worked closely with the Headmaster and encouraged a closer relationship between the School Council and the Staff. He was also successful in developing a closer co ordination with the Baptist Union of Victoria.
In 1986, Mr Malcolm Vawser has resigned as President of Council due to the demands of his position as Chairman of the Dairy Corporation.
He made a significant contribution to the shaping of Carey's history and to the development of a firm basis for the future well-being of the School.
