David Richard Lord (OCG 1953)
David Richard Lord was a student at Carey Baptist Grammar School from 1943 to 1953.
In 1953 he was Head Prefect and School Captain; a member of the Cricket First XI 1951-1953 (Vice Captain and Colours 1953); and a member of the Football First XVIII 1951-1953.
He was appointed School Captain by Stuart Hickman, who later appointed him to the Carey Staff, for the school year 1960. He retired from the full-time Carey Staff, after 38 years, in 1997. Since then he has been Chief Supervisor of VCE Examinations, Chief Supervisor of IB Examinations and Supervisor of Study Hall at Carey. He served on the Committee organizing the 10th year anniversary of the opening of the Hickman Building (2004) and was on the Carey Centenary History Committee.
During the years 1960-1997, he was a Head of House for 25 years, including Foundation Head of Hickman House, 1967-1984; ,coached cricket for 30 years; the First Cricket XI for 10 years, I/C Cricket. Founding the Old Carey Cricket Club in 1955/56, he was the first Honorary Life Member of the Club; is Honorary Life Member of the Carey Musical Theatre Company and the Carey Common Room Association and is an Honoured Life Member of the Old Carey Grammarians Association.
For the last eight years he was on the Carey Staff, 1989-1997. He was Director of Development and as Executive Director of the Carey Foundation, saw the raising of $1.5m, to build the Geoffrey Stevens Swimming Pool at Bulleen, opened in 21 March 1992. The target was reached on William Carey's birthday, Thursday, 17 August 1989.
The late Mr Geoffrey Stevens was the first President of the Carey Foundation and a most generous supporter of Carey.
