Mr Arthur Smith was originally appointed as a teacher of carpentry and a member of the rowing staff.
During his eleven years at the school he introduced large numbers of boys to the intricacies of woodwork and played a major role in the development of the rowing.
The Arthur Smith Rowing Training Pool was a fine memorial to his enthusiasm and to his inventive genius.
