Presentation Album to Marian Metcalfe, 1951

The title page features handwritten calligraphy reading: “Presented to Marian Metcalfe in recognition of 26 years’ service to Carey, December 1951.”

The album contains black-and-white photographs of all Preparatory School classes, taken in 1951 against a consistent outdoor backdrop of the Preparatory School building. Each class photograph is preceded by a page bearing the pupils’ handwritten signatures in grey lead pencil. An introductory calligraphic page notes that the album includes “the signatures and photographs of most of the pupils of Carey Preparatory School” and records that those absent “wish to be remembered.”

Also included is a watercolour illustration of the Preparatory School building (constructed 1925); the artist is unidentified.
