Mrs Jean Mason
Description
Biography
During her twenty-seven years of devoted service to the School, many hundreds of boys have passed through Mrs. Mason's hands and have reason to be thankful for the guidance and sympathy which they received. Included among these are a number of Old Boys who themselves are now members of staff.
It has been my great privilege to have known Mrs. Mason whilst a school boy at Carey and to have worked with her in the Junior School. She has been a most loyal and gracious member of our school community and we all wish her every happiness in her retirement.

When Mrs. Mason retired at the end of 1970, the School lost a trusted leader and real friend.
After training with the Education Department and teaching both in country and suburban schools, Mrs. Mason joined the staff of the Preparatory School in 1944 under Miss Metcalfe. There were just over 100 boys in the Prep. School in that year and the total number of boys at Carey reached 300 for the first time.
When the School was reorganised in 1959, Mrs. Mason was appointed Senior Mistress of the Preparatory School with the responsibility for 180 boys. It was at the beginning of that year that the Prep. School moved into the new building in Wrixon Street and Mrs. Mason had the task of settling in to these premises and establishing the School in its new surroundings. Mrs. Mason strongly supported the introduction of a Beginners class and this was opened in 1966.
