A school-based community service project in which Donvale students designed and painted a mural for the Austin Hospital Emergency Department’s paediatric waiting room. Students produced character-style sea-creature drawings (e.g., fish with bowler hats, octopuses with handbags, crabs with watches) in response to a brief reflecting on the experience of being in hospital, intended to provide engaging visual diversion for children and discussion points for parents. Two senior art students, Naimisha and Phoebe, assisted in executing the final mural on site, adapting and enriching the design with additional details while working in a public, high-traffic environment. The finished work aimed to create a more visually stimulating waiting area and a lasting source of comfort for patients, families, staff and visitors.
