DescriptionConstruction of the Carey Alpine Club Lodge at Falls Creek began on 1 November 1964. After minor initial delays, progress accelerated rapidly: by early 1965, the frame was complete, the roof installed, 75% of bricks laid, plumbing 60% finished, and electrical wiring underway.

The two-story lodge accommodated 24 in bunkrooms (with emergency space for 11 more in the lounge), plus a basement drying room, food store, general storeroom, and furnace room. The lounge (25 ft by 32 ft) and kitchen sat above the basement, opening onto an 8 ft balcony on the north and east sides. Rock wool blanket insulation (½-inch thick) and aluminium foil were used, with oil-fired heating and hot water.

Completion was targeted for 31 March 1965, with the contract on schedule, and the building was officially opened on the Queen's Birthday weekend in 1965. Total cost: £12,000. The club encouraged year-round use for skiing, hiking, trout fishing, swimming in Rocky Valley or Pretty Valley dams, mountaineering, or relaxation.

Membership was open to Carey boys and immediate family (parents, siblings).
