Description
CreatorRaymond S. ReedDescriptionCarey Was Our Home is an account about a part of Carey's history which is almost forgotten: the Boarding House.
Author Ray Reed, who was a boarder at Carey, undertook research of the history of the Boarding House for the Carey Heritage Committee. He eventually collated his research into this book.
Carey Was Our Home offers a detailed account of the Boarding House’s stories, from the very beginning when Rev. Leonard Tranter travelled across rural Victoria, seeking funds and promoting a Baptist school with residential students; until the closure of the Boarding House in 1951 and the demolition of Laycock House in 2008.
Throughout this book, readers are taken on the journey of the Boarding House, from dire financial difficulties to the many personal experiences of life as a boarder. Steele’s strict rules for Boarders are included in full, and stories about the Resident Masters, and particularly Les Trewin, offer a real insight into what life was like for boarders in the early days of Carey.DateBetween 1st January 2018 and 31st December 2018Year2018PublisherCarey Baptist Grammar SchoolPlace of PublicationKew, Vic.TypeBookCollectionPublicationsKeywordBoarding housesLanguageEnglishCategoryPublications | Books
