Robert 'Drac' Wilkinson
Robert Wilkinson (Carey staff 1948-1961) pioneered a reading and discussion course in literature for his Matriculation students, and while at Carey played a prominent role in the development of the Science Teachers’ Association of Victoria. He participated in the work of several Australian Council for Educational Research (ACER) committees on science teaching, and in 1962 won the Australian Industrial Development Association’s medal for the teacher in Victoria who made the most outstanding contribution to science teaching. It was with considerable regret that Stuart Hickman announced Robert Wilkinson’s appointment by the University of Melbourne as a senior lecturer in Physics from 1962. He ‘certainly left his mark [in] our well-planned science laboratories, and in the very real interest in scientific studies that many boys owe to his enthusiasm and encouragement’.
