D. D. Williamson, only child of Mr. and Mrs. C. P. In February, 1942, he entered the Royal Military College at Duntroon, as a staff cadet and completed the two-year course very successfully, graduating in December, 1943, as a member of the Australian Staff Corps and being seconded to the A.I.F. After further training at the Small Arms School at Bonegilla, as Senior Lieutenant of the Duntroon graduates there and at the School of Jungle Warfare at Canungra, Queensland, where he was an instructor in small arms training, he was posted to the 9th Division, eventually left Australia in April, 1945, and went into action at Labuan and N.W. Borneo.
Letters received from officers and men of his battalion, speak in high terms of his efficiency and devotion to duty, especially in swimming ashore two days before the landing to reconnoitre the position. Before he left Australia, he became engaged to Miss Lois Montgomery. He was aged 21 years.
