Leigh Rule
Flight Lieutenant Leigh Rule was killed in an aircraft accident near Kingaroy, Queensland on 18th April, 1945.
The son of James and Margaret Amy (née Gall) Rule, he spent his early years at Carey (1926-28) before moving to Scotch College (1929-36) where he completed his education.
He enlisted in the R.A.A.F. in September, 1940. After training as a fighter pilot he saw extensive service in Europe, the Middle East and India before returning to Australia by 1945. As a Flight Lieutenant he was then an instructor with No.1 Sqn (RAAF), based at Kingaroy in Queensland, flying Mosquitoes.
His brother Jim was also in the RAAF, stationed in India. Leigh was the ‘loved friend’ of Margaret and a ‘great pal’ of Pte. Myles Burnett. He was survived by his brother and sister, Mrs. Sergeant.
He is also commemorated by the Melbourne City Roll of Honour Memorial.
