DescriptionThe Australian team competing at the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul was of particular interest and pride to Carey Grammar, with three ex-Carey students and two rowing coaches amongst the team members.

Perhaps the most spectacular achievement was that of canoeist Peter Foster and his partner Kelvin Graham who won a bronze medal in the Kayak Pairs 1000 metres. New Zealand won the silver medal, and the United States the gold with a time only one second faster than the Australians.

Peter left Carey in 1976. Water sports have always been of interest to him, and while still a student at Carey he represented Victoria and won a national swimming championship in Hobart. His primary interest, however, was surf life saving and this he pursued until 1983. A plumber by trade, it was only in 1983 that canoeing became such an important part of his life. As well as competing in the Olympics, Peter has had great success in many national and international canoeing events.
