Mrs M. E. Manders retired at the end of the 1981 school year. She joined the staff in 1957 and taught at various levels in the Preparatory School until 1966, when she took over the development of the Beginners' grade.

During her 25 years at Carey, Mrs Manders served the school with continual enthusiasm and skill. Not only did she give hundreds of young children a happy, well-grounded start to their school careers, but she also inspired young and old alike with her interests in music, art and literature.

Mrs Manders exercised a special talent in working with young teachers, and she maintained a remarkable freshness for someone so experienced.
