2025 Carey Artist-in-Residence Program: June Chen
About the Program
In 2025, Year 4 students at the Junior School Kew campus helped develop the design and worked with Artist in Residence June Chen to paint the new chicken coop, bringing their shared vision to life.
About the Artist
June Chen is a Melbourne-based artist who completed a Bachelor of Fine Art at RMIT University in 2013. Her practice includes series of charcoal drawings on paper, mixed-media photographic collages, and other mixed-media works. Influenced by themes of cultural identity and post-feminism, Chen’s art explores personal and social experiences shaped by culture. Through strong visual contrasts, her work invites viewers into her perspective while reflecting on issues of reality, identity, and contemporary society.
Since graduating from RMIT, Chen has exhibited widely, including participation in Top Arts at the National Gallery of Victoria. Her exhibitions include solo shows such as Look Into Me at The Red Gallery, The Trap at The Inknation Gallery, and The Father at Supergraph. She has also taken part in a range of collaborative and independent projects that continue to expand her artistic practice.
