Carey Artist-in-Residence Program
A record of all artists-in-residence at Carey, including artist biographies, works created, exhibitions, student collaborations, and related documentation, from the program's inception to the present.
DescriptionThis collection documents the history and development of the Artist-in-Residence programs at Carey Baptist Grammar School. The initiative began in the Junior School under the leadership of art teacher Di Donsdottir, who introduced the idea of inviting practising artists into the school community. Through the program, students worked directly with artists—including weavers, painters and potters—gaining firsthand insight into creative processes. Some of the earliest works produced through these collaborations remain displayed throughout the School, providing a lasting visual record of the program’s impact.
Artist-in-Residence programs were also later established in Carey’s Middle and Senior Schools, where they continue to provide opportunities for students to engage with professional Melbourne-based artists and designers. Through these collaborative projects, artists and students work together to foster curiosity, creativity and authentic learning experiences, enriching the School’s visual arts and design programs.
