Carey Artist and Designer in Residence Program
A record of all Artist and Designer in Residence Programs at Carey, including artist/designer biographies, works created, exhibitions, student collaborations, and related documentation, from the program's inception to the present.
DescriptionCarey Baptist Grammar School’s Art and Design Learning Area operates an Artist-in-Residence (AIR) and Designer-in-Residence (DIR) program, which provides students with insight into the working methods of professional practitioners. Practising artists and designers are selected annually to participate in the AIR and DIR programs, working with students in Years 9 and 11. The main aim of the program is to increase student and teacher engagement in creative practice by providing opportunities to interact with and observe an artist or designer at work.
During their residency, the artists and designers deliver talks on their specialist areas and conduct workshops. As their studio is located within the Art and Design School for the duration of their stay, their creative process can be observed firsthand by both students and staff. At the conclusion of the residency, a finished artwork or design is presented to the school.
The Carey community looks forward to these opportunities each year, continuing a long tradition of more than 30 years that celebrates this vibrant and creative aspect of our community engagement programs.
