2020 Carey Artist-in-Residence Program: Tony Lloyd
About the Program
In 2020, the Artist-in-Residence Program successfully transitioned to a virtual format, enabling Year 11 Art students to continue engaging with contemporary artistic practice during remote learning. Through the Canvas learning platform, students followed weekly instructional videos created by their teachers and Artist-in-Residence Tony Lloyd, exploring the aesthetic, compositional, and thematic aspects of art-making.
Tony Lloyd provided students with insight into a professional studio environment through technique demonstrations and his approach to painting from observation. The flexible nature of the pre-recorded content allowed students to work at their own pace, fostering deeper engagement with the material and supporting independent learning.
The program demonstrated the adaptability of the Art and Design curriculum while encouraging students to develop creativity, resilience, and innovative thinking. By embracing the opportunities and challenges of remote learning, students strengthened the skills needed to analyse, adapt, and respond creatively to a changing world.
