The Phantom
Description
Biography
When Carey opened its doors in 1923, 69 boys attended the first assembly. By recess, one had disappeared and only 68 names were recorded on the inaugural school roll.
In the first formal school photograph, he can be seen standing proudly among his classmates, dressed in full school uniform, likely aged around sixteen or seventeen - one of the senior boys. Yet his name was never written down, and his identity remains a mystery.
More than a century later, Carey’s 'Phantom' continues to intrigue and symbolise the untold stories woven into the school’s early history.
