This work is representative of 240 families and approximately forty members of staff. It is a visual representation of the bond between the school and the families, beginning with the birth of the child and the nurturing of children by their families within a supportive environment (the base and the trunk).

Each family was given a piece of fabric to work on in any manner that was significant to them. Staff members were also given fabric and their contributions were to be symbolic of their influence on student learning. The leaves that provide the protection and shelter within a community were created from outlines of everyone's hands. The outside images are the creatures that need the tree for survival, and the four corners represent the Houses of the school. Such collaborative art has meaning to those participating and takes the persona of the environment in which it is placed, giving the participants a sense of pride and ownership and breaking down the barriers of age, culture and beliefs.
