Tree of Life quilt, 1995
The Tree of Life Quilt was a major collaborative community artwork created at the Donvale campus and unveiled at the end of 1995. Designed to symbolise community, friendship, learning and the partnership between family and school, the quilt involved contributions from every family in the School, along with staff, School Board members and students.
Using pre-cut fabric shapes in varying brown tones, each family created an individual section of the tree trunk incorporating symbols reflecting their family identity and cultural background. Staff and School Board members contributed the branches, while students created the leaves forming the tree canopy. The border featured images from nature and the four House symbols.
The completed quilt symbolised the importance of individuality within a supportive and interconnected community, reflecting the Donvale campus philosophy of nurturing creativity, intellectual growth and belonging through collaborative learning experiences.
