The Spirit of Pinorchen, 2004
The Spirit of Pinorchen was a large-scale community art project officially unveiled by Cr Patricia Young, Mayor of Manningham City Council, on 21 October 2004.
Created with contributions from more than 600 local participants, the work celebrated the strong sense of community surrounding The Pines Shopping Centre. The name Pinorchen combined references to The Pines (“Pin”), the site’s orchard history (“orch”), and the surrounding native environment (“en”).
The project was designed and coordinated by Jeanette Jennings, Art Teacher at Carey’s Donvale campus. Contributors included students from Carey Donvale, the Warrandyte Pottery Group, WMIAA and friends, the Fit Women Exercise Group, the Late Bloomers Gardening Group, Deep Creek Pre-School, and hundreds of local community members.
The collaborative artwork reflected themes of connection, local identity, creativity and community participation.
