Geoffrey Stevens Swimming Pool Complex
The complex features an eight-lane main pool with an adjoining spectator gallery, as well as a separate diving pool equipped with one-metre and three-metre diving boards.
The facility was named in honour of H.G. (Geoffrey) Stevens, whose association with Carey dated from the 1960s. In addition to serving on the School Council from 1966 to 1975, Stevens made a significant contribution to the School’s fundraising efforts. Under the presidency of Eric Dunshea, he served as General Chairman of the Forward Carey appeal in 1960 and as a section chairman for the Onward Carey appeal in 1969.
Stevens was also Chairman of the newly established Foundation Board from 1984 to 1988 and played a leading role in generating the support and momentum that resulted in the construction at Bulleen of both the Gerard Cramer Physical Education Centre and the Geoffrey Stevens Swimming Pool Complex.
The naming of the complex stands as recognition of Geoffrey Stevens’ many years of dedicated and valuable service to the School.
