DESCRIPTION

Description'Dragon dreaming' was a picture book created by Year 4 students at Carey Donvale in 2012 to celebrate the Year of the Water Dragon, a significant event in the Chinese zodiac that occurs only once every 60 years.

Developed during the National Year of Reading, the project began as a creative storytelling exercise inspired by Jackie Morris’s beautifully illustrated and poetic book Tell Me a Dragon. Students were encouraged to imagine and describe their own dragons, drawing on the wonder, symbolism and mythology associated with these legendary creatures.

The project was a collaboration between the Art, Library and LOTE departments, which worked together to create a learning experience that was both linguistically inclusive and visually rich. Through writing, illustration and cultural exploration, students developed imaginative narratives while engaging with an important aspect of Chinese culture.
