7th Kew Scout Troop
Seventh Kew was set up by Carey Baptist Grammar School in 1932. The troop first met in an old loft above the school’s maintenance department. For their first camp, at Gilwell, they had to borrow their camping gear from the Wesley troop.
The troop flourished. Ken Lyall was Senior Master for some ten years, followed by John Boardman for a fifteen year period. Chris Ferdinands became Senior Master in 1964 and GSN in 1969. In all, including leadership outside Australia, Chris has served Scouting for some 40 years.
A cub pack was not started until 1972 - when the then DLCM, Pat Dixie, put the pressure on Chris. Chris Grey has worked on and off with the cubs for over years.
In 1967, following a number of years of organising and fundraising led by the then Group Committee President and Vice-President, respectively Harold Dimmick and Mrs Nichol, a new hall was built. The adjoining den and store was created from a converted former stables.
