Llew Evans (OCG 1931)
Llewellyn Handforth Evans came to Carey from New Zealand in 1928 as a 15 year old student. He returned as a member of the teaching staff in 1947.
His 31 years of distinguished service culminated in the naming of the Kew Junior School Library in his honour.
In retirement, Llew served the people of Melbourne's western suburbs as a member of the Westgate Baptist Community. His generosity of spirit and simplicity of vision were soon recognised and he quickly became engrossed in its service.
Llew lived a very simple life. He gave away most of his money and possessions. He put the needs of others before his own. He was modest and humble in all his dealings; and has been described as 'a truly Christ-like figure in our midst'.
Llew Evans was a recipient of the 1998 Carey Medal.
He died on 9 July 2006 at age 92 in Footscray, Victoria.
