John Alexander Brock Marshall
Sergeant-Pilot John Alexander Brock Marshall was killed in air operations over Saarbrucken on 28th August, 1942.
J. A. B. Marshall, elder son of Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Marshall, Washington Avenue, East Malvern, came to Carey as a boarder in March, 1932, from the Mitiamo State School, where his father was the Head Teacher, and was in attendance until December, 1933, when he sat for his Intermediate Certificate. He then joined the staff of the Servex Electric Co., and after completing the requirements for Matriculation, proceeded to the course of Bachelor of Commerce, which he combined with his other employment.
He joined the R.A.A.F. in June, 1940, and after finishing his training in Australia, and graduating as a Sergeant-Pilot, left in August, 1941, for England, where he saw considerable service. When he met his death, he was in command of a Halifax bomber. He was buried in Tombeck cemetery, twelve miles south of Brussels.
He was aged 24 years.
