Mark Edwin Worthington Stump
Mr. M. E. W. Stump joined the staff of Carey Baptist Grammar School in 1926 and served the School with distinction for twenty years. Throughout his time at Carey he was Head of Science, and many Old Carey Grammarians who went on to excel in scientific fields credited his teaching as an important influence in their careers.
Beyond the classroom, Mr. Stump took a keen interest in school sport, particularly tennis and swimming, where his encouragement was warmly remembered by both students and colleagues.
Following the retirement of Rev. H. J. Sutton, Mr. Stump was appointed Senior Master, a role in which his strong organisational ability contributed greatly to the smooth running of the School. Respected as both a colleague and a friend, he played a significant part in shaping the Carey community during a formative period in its history.
In 1946, Mr. Stump resigned from Carey to take up a new appointment. His departure was keenly felt, yet his legacy of leadership, scholarship, and service remained an enduring part of the School’s story.
