Self-portraits mural, 2011
A large collaborative ceramic installation comprising approximately 75 individual student self-portraits mounted together on a dark backing board against a brick wall. Each hand-crafted ceramic portrait is unique in shape, colour and expression, reflecting the individuality and creativity of the students who created them. The portraits vary from realistic to highly imaginative interpretations, with many framed by decorative ceramic borders and patterns. Installed as a collective artwork, the display celebrates student identity, diversity and community within the Junior School environment.
Historical notesIn 2011, ceramic artist Kaye Clancy collaborated with Year 6 students at Kew to create a large ceramic mural comprising individual self-portraits. Installed at the entrance to the Hickman Building, the work celebrated student identity, creativity and community through a diverse collection of hand-crafted ceramic portraits created by the students.
