Eric Ernest Dunshea
On 16 April 1972, Carey lost a visionary leader with the passing of Mr Eric E. Dunshea, President of the School Council. His name remains inseparable from the school’s remarkable growth in the 1950s and 1960s.
When he assumed the presidency in 1953, Carey enrolled fewer than 500 boys. By the time of his death, the school had grown to 1,270 students. This transformation was the result of both foresight and meticulous planning—qualities that Eric Dunshea exemplified throughout his leadership.
Beyond his strategic guidance, he was also deeply generous. He not only supported Carey’s physical expansion but also assisted families in need, often giving anonymously so that recipients never knew the identity of their benefactor.
Eric Dunshea’s passing marked the loss of one of Carey’s most influential leaders and most selfless supporters. His vision and generosity continue to shape the school’s story today.
