H. G. (Harold George) Steele was Carey Baptist Grammar School's foundation headmaster and held office for twenty-two years.
He was born on 25 January 1884, in Warrnambool, Victoria, Australia. His father was Rev Alexander Steele, and his mother, Mary Jane Trewin.
He wrote the school song 'Play the Game', established the OCGA and accepted on Carey's behalf an offer of membership of the Associated Public Schools of Victoria amongst many achievements in his distinguished career. An erudite man if great vision and energy, his influence on the young school was immeasurable.
He died on 7th August 1967, in Kew, Victoria, Australia, at the age of 83, and was buried in Fawkner Memorial Park, Hadfield, Victoria, Australia.
